From the President Patrick Mervin
MVFD Community
We begin a new decade and find ourselves halfway through the third year of operating Mountain Volunteer Fire Department with the current Board of Directors and firefighting/EMS team. Our outlook as a group is very positive, and we are meeting the challenges of serving our community and operating a non-profit all volunteer organization in these very challenging economic times. This success is achieved by multiple means; seeking every possible opportunity for funding, working with the incredible dedication and community service of all of our volunteers and of course the bottom line: we enjoy the strong support of our MVFD community.
Firefighters
Our recruitment drive this past fall brought us four new firefighters, bringing our firefighting staff up to 16 total firefighters. Each firefighter signs on to serve this community, to undergo hundreds of hours of training and to develop the complex skills necessary to fight fires, deliver emergency first aid, extricate and package car wreck victims. You may not fully appreciate them now, but someday, when you really need help, you may find yourself being helped by one of your neighbors dressed up in firefighting attire with a handheld radio connected to the entire Sonoma County Fire and EMS network, able to bring ambulances, medivac helicopters and hundreds of firefighting professionals throughout Northern California to help us handle any emergency.
Truck Brigade
The truck brigade is comprised of 6 dedicated men who show up each week to maintain and service the vehicles so that when we roll on a 911 call we don’t have to worry about the vehicle performing its job. We trust these guys and count on these guys to keep us rolling – Thanks!
MVFD Board of Directors
We continue with the basic core group that took office 2 ½ years ago with the addition of our new treasurer Kent Domogalla who was voted in last November’s election. Kent is much appreciated by the entire board, and he brings years of experience and expertise in accounting to the job and has our bookwork totally dialed in. The remaining board members are a great group of people and I feel very fortunate to be able to work with each one of them in our common goal of operating MVFD.
Misc. Issues
Our ongoing discussions with the Williams Family Trust over the continued use of the land that supports our firehouse are going well. Recent positive developments bode well for a successful outcome.
